It can be driven by a smart phone but you donāt want to. It sounds very dull. Amping, or at least a very strong source, comes highly recommended.
I also got my P1 today. Packaging issue was present, but I am please to confirm that there appears to be no damage to either unit. The stock cable is mediocre, but perfectly serviceable IMO (I ordered mine with an additional Tripowin C8 cable, so Iāve already replaced it). They definitely need some juice, and depending on the track gain, I need to put my Plenue D up to 60~70/100 volume. For comparison, Andromedas only need 20~25 and even thristy DD and hybrid IEMs usually max out around 40~45/100 for LOUD volumes. The P1 is a detail monster, and clearly puts the center image inside your head with natural soundstaging and sharp imaging. I wouldnāt call them bass-lite, but they are planar and a touch bright. Whether you got into these at $149 or $169, itās money well spent if you can drive them and they fit a sound profile similar to your tastes. While I can drive them comfortably on the high-end of my DAP, I donāt listen to music on my phone (Samsung Note 8) but the average Youtube video needs the volume near maxed or maxed to really drive them (within 3 clicks of maximum to max), so they have zero headroom from my phone. For full disclosure though, I have slight-to-moderate hearing loss (34, worked around aircraft for years, love my music loud). Iām not deaf by any means, but my hearing cuts out ~15.5 khtz for a sine wave test at reference hearing levels, so YMMV. If you were using a phone (or your DAP was meekly powered), I would most definitely recommend an amp.
thanks for replying, appreciate it
thanks for the info, will check out an amp
I signed up on this forum just to say thank you for this informationā¦ being an electronics graduate I wish i learned these things properly in my College, nevertheless fascinating infoā¦kudosā¦ Makes so much sense why P1s need an amplifierā¦also i feel i am one level up when it comes to understanding Audio specs
Have been listening to mine for the past couple days, just got them on Friday. I knew they would be good, but these are insane. Unless you have very specific demands regarding a very wide sound stage or very heavy bass, there is no reason to buy anything else. These simply destroy the higher priced IEM market. Value per dollar, these are the 6XXās of the IEMās. The sound is ridiculous. Powered correctly, the amount of detail and the liquidity of sound delivery is amazing. One of the very few headphones/IEMās I use that sound good with any genre of music. And I have 9 pairs of headphones. Itās seriously like these turn PCM lossless tracks into liquid gold and pour it into your ears. So so smooth.
Hereās my 2 cents on the p1.
Just a quick update:
Linsoul were super responsive. They will be shipping me a replacement, so there will be no issues with the new one.
Ordered last week and received them today! Looking forward to using them!
Just here to say, pairing P1s with Cayin C5 is pretty gud, the bass boost is mild and adequate for my tasteā¦ No intention in spending on iems anymore, pretty happy with P1s and T2ā¦ On to the search for a gud headphone to upgrade from HD598( Already loving it but want something more if there is any, suggestions pls, eyeing the Thieaudio Phantom)
Happens that it could have been written by meā¦
Any cable upgrade suggestions for P1ās ? Looking forward for themā¦
Thnx!
The obvious pick would be that FiiO cable Zeos had in his video. Balanced, silver, really nice looking. I donāt think I could justify a 60 dollar IEM cable myself but Iām one of those non-believers when it comes to cables making much of a difference.
Balanced to get more juice to an over ear? Sure. But an IEM? Eh.
Believe me they do! But there has definitely to be juice to suck !!!
Not that theyāll do all the sonic performance.
They sound great with the Little Bear B4X. Miles ahead of Sennheiser IE80S, which in my opinion sounds like aā¦ turd that tries to sing.
They sound unbelievable with ifi micro idsdā¦ The more power you feed them, the greater they sound! Very special iemās.
Hey guys,
am I able to drive these well enough on my phone?
Got a hidizs dac and a OnePlus 6
You can but it opens up with power! Sounds good with the phone, until you hear them with the ifi nano BLā¦ sounds good with the Idsd until you hear it with the atom! Bottom line ā¦ they never sound bad, but the more power you give them, the better to they will be.
I cant decide which under 200ā¬ IEM is the best bang for the buckā¦I mostly hear metal music and have a decent amp/dac, but I listen to music on the go most of the time on my smartphone.
Just sold the bgvp dm6 to get a different IEM.
SOOOOO TRUE ā¦ They are unbelievable in this regard.
