What did you buy today? (Part 1)

I went to Walmart today to pick up duct tape and zip-ties.

The guy in the hardware section looked at me funny.

Hehehe, cable guys are funny, so i traded a few “wares” to a fellow audiophile who happens to really, really be into ‘High-end” cables/wires and such. I just needed some RCA’s but he insisted if i didn’t upgrade the USB cable it would be for nothing. So despite the fact that there was NO WAY i could sanely afford another cable, JUST TO PROVE HIS POINT, he sent me the USB cable too, he could not stand letting me JUST have an upgraded RCA, it wouldn’t be enough. So now i really need to plug these into something and let him know how much better everything soundsđŸ€Ł I really love my friends, they are truly insane and so dedicated to the hobbyđŸ’Ș

I’m probably still gonna have to order a $10 RCA from amazon, just for the actual purpose and intended use, this has turned into an evil, COSTLY, and twisted experiment nowđŸ€Ł

I got the Porta Pros last night. I’ve gotta say, they make me even more baffled by the popularity of the kph30i. The Porta Pros sound like the kph30i but without the shit-tastic bass bloat and muffled highs. Same signature, just WAY better execution on the Porta Pros. The comfort is better than the kph30i for me as well. The pads are smaller, meaning they touch less if my ear, and softer, so where they do touch does not get hit or itchy like the kph30i. The build is also more to my liking. The headband is metal and they feel a bit more durable overall. Plus they are actually portable since they fold up and are sturdy enough to be thrown into a bag without much worry (maybe not, I’ve only had then about 24hrs, but I feel much more comfortable with the build if the Porta Pros than the kph30i). So, can someone explain to me why they love the kph30i more than the Porta Pros?

Because some people, such as myself, despise bright headphones. I’d rather deal with bass bloat than treble murder.

But the Porta Pros are definitely not treble murder.

Exactly
that’s why I love them.

Interesting
I found the bass less ‘bloaty’ on the 30i and a tad more neutral overall
they’re very close imo and i also prefer the build and comfort with the 30i :man_shrugging:
 to each their own though
 all 3 koss are great

The yaxi pads definitely help the bass bloat as well. Yaxi pads are a must.

You can always get the ksc75 and pop them into the porta pro headband. Ksc75 definitely have way less bass.

But the modularity of the koss lineup is part of the draw. And 20 bucks for a porta pro is still a steal. No, they don’t compete with something like HE4xx or Hd58x
but for the price, it is definitely worth .

That’s why I’m very confused by the price of the sp330. Last time I looked, they where like $80 for something Zeos himself said was about the same sound quality as the kph30i and was definitely going to break.

One man’s bloated bass is another man’s boomy joy
:hugs: Anyway, $22 and i don’t feel terrible when i lose or break a pair.

But you see, it’s not the quantity, it’s the quality. Iove my TR-X00 PH in part because of the massive bass, but that bass is high quality. I like the bass on the Porta Pros and find it similar in amount to the kph30i (a bit less, but still similar), but it seems to be less bloated to me. I’m still kind if convinced I got a bum pair of kph30i some time since they sound SO BAD to me that I can not fathom how so many people like them.

I understand your incomprehension, but i must take a moment to remind you that sound perception is a totally individual experience. I have done car stereo for many years, to stand around watching hundreds of people praise a Honda civic cranking out 5000watts with 4 18’s, ZERO mids or vocals and nothing but some screeching tweet tweets and call it awesome, Is my exact point in how differently we all hear things. Again, $22bucks and they are throw away. I bought 100 for the office and folks love them on their computers as head sets for video calls, phone calls etc., hell you should have seen them fight over the different color optionsđŸ€Ł

Of course the Thx00 are in another class. The price difference alone makes sense. But when I’m running around the house cleaning or taking a walk, the ease of portability of the Koss is worth it. When I’m sitting at my desk really listening to music, I have my top notch stuff for that. I can drive the Koss off of my phone, put on spotify and I’m ready to go. Can’t really do that with my Atticus, lol.

Also, I do have the yaxi pads on my kph30i as well. It makes a substantial difference.
