Welp, it’s time to slow down. LCD X last week, and bought a B-stock Bifrost 2 tonight. I will say, THX 887 + Airist R-2R with the LCD X made me wonder, do I have a DAC that is resolving enough? I’ll admit, I love multibit so the Bifrost 2 getting praise on these forums and getting some interesting reviews against the Gungnir made it obvious to me, it’s time to to update.
Btw, $189 for a Asgard 3 right on on Schiit if you want B-stock (no card).

R2R DACs are usually bit “warmer” and “musical” compared to chip based ones that are more “clinical”.
Denafrips Ares II might be a good upgrade too.

Yes but am going from the Airist R-2R to the Bifrost 2. I’ve seen and heard the reviews and from my limited personal testing with the AK4490, 2 Sabre DAC/amps, and the Airist R-2R I can confidently say I can hear the Airist R-2R in a blind test every time on at least 1 song. When you know a song that grew up with, heard on vinyl, old CD players with multibit DACs, and know the difference with Delta sigma DACs you just know what sounds good to your ears.
My ears swear there is a truer sound to vinyl than the Delta sigma DACs based on my exposure. For comparison I do want a better Delta sigma and I will order the enog 2 pro the minute I feel comfortable with a USB implementation there.
I mean personally I think if you wanted another upgrade, upgrading your amp might be worthwhile
The bifrost 2 is pretty awesome though

Funny Story. I worked in a pharmacy for 6 years in a rich neighbourhood. My manager during the first couple years could never figure out what to put on the impulse buy shelf near the check out and I shit you not he put IN ORDER

I believe so. I’ve not been into the headphone side of things for a while. I got sucked into the world of IEMs because of Chi-fi. Decided to go back to headphones lately. Another one that is well sought after and expensive if you can get your hands on one is the XB1000. According to Hifi Insider on YouTube, who’s a big Sony fan, the XB920 is his favourite of that design.

Just bought a pair of ZMF Eikon Camphor! They should arrive later this week. Pretty excited as these will be my first pair of ZMF headphones. Also fixing to order me a Salire (cherry wood) and some pads to roll. Anybody have recommendations for what pads work best with Eikon?

I have that THX 887 for now which I am fairly content with. As for upgrading the amp, I’ll have to listen to the setup with what I have and figure it out from there once the bifrost comes in. I can’t think of an amp I really want at the moment that would be an improvement.
