What did you buy today? (Part 1)

That is an amazing stand.

At first I was a bit off put by what I was hearing. After some good advice and encouragement (thanks guys), I just plugged them in and let them play all night to a mix of pink noise and music.

Iā€™m really liking them. The drivers definitely needed some breaking in, and most of the issues I initially had were resolved.

They are very resolving, with a pretty neutral presentation (frequency wise), which I prefer (maybe add a touch of warmth and that would be my version of perfect).

The highs reach the edge of what would be too bright for me, and thankfully they donā€™t tread to far into that territory. There is also a bit of congestion at times, mostly when itā€™s distorted guitars peaking with vocal at the same time, but this was mostly alleviated with the overnight break-in/burn-in.

The biggest hurdle regarding brain-burn is the smallish, circular staging. Iā€™m pretty certain it has to do with the physical size of the drivers, as theyā€™re only 40mmā€™s. Iā€™ve been spoiled with Audezeā€™s massive transducer (106mm!) which creates that spectacular ā€œhelmet of soundā€ experience.

Other than these mostly minor quibbles I believe these are an excellent compliment to the LCD-X.

Thanks. I really like it with the exception that I wish it was a bit heavier. It hasnā€™t tipped over, but some more heft in the base would add some reassurance.

I totally understand the congestion at times and Iā€™ve let mine play all night and day too. Iā€™m comparing mine to the hd800S as they are my compliment to the Verite. As it stands now these are stronger in some areas and the hd800S is stronger in others. The clears have more body, which helps with metal and tracks with solid bass. I could listen to the clears on metal all day, 800s not so much. The hd800s right now pulls away in vocals and separation. The 800S makes things sound so big (typically). The clears probably have a better timbre to my ear in most music but the hd800S isnā€™t lacking too much. I was hoping this would be easier of a decision. More to come!

The hd800S is running off of a darkvoice with a winged C power tube and a nos tungsol pre amp tube

Clears, obviously a RNHP :hugs:

Both being fed from B2

I predict that youā€™ll keep them both!

Seriously, my advice to anyone would be to keep gear that you enjoy if it compliments the other gear. If something just isnā€™t carrying its own weight in some regard (itā€™s own wow factor) then I would let it go.

The hd800S will sound tinny at times but it separates so well so it messes with you. And the stage is big. Pretty wild how it sounds like speakers in a way. But the clears are really good in their own way.

Oh idkā€¦ I may make myself pick one lol. Kinda like the aeon 2 closed and elegia. I only have so much time and these need head time. And with the Verite here things donā€™t get used like they should as it is. Weā€™ll see how it goes lol.

I couldnā€™t go with anything leaner. I need that foundation of bass. Doesnā€™t mean exaggerated, but it has to be present.

@M0N, I think we hijacked this thread. Could you kindly move it to the Clear thread?

Thanks!

If these were going head to head on the rnhp it would be the clears but the hd800S on a tube with decent tubes it does well.
Violin is killer on the clears. Too much on hd800S.

I just put in an order for a ZMF Verite. Iā€™m going to try my best to forget I ordered it so I donā€™t stress out over it or keep checking a spreadsheet every 5 minutes.

If you can keep it at 5min., then you are my hero!

Thatā€™s probably the best way to go about it.

Congratulations, that VeritƩ is a beloved headphone by many.

I made a smallish purchase today. Open box Sundaraā€™s for $379.00 (Canuck bucks).
Same shop I bought the open box TH-610ā€™s from. About 4,000Kms away, but this will be my third pair of headphones from them. :grinning:

I was trying to swear off of this price point, but I am a weak human being with no will power!
Well, I canā€™t say no will power. This same shop has the Cascades at $999.00, but I canā€™t go that big. That is a kind of will power right? Right?

Yep! I have been eyeing them for about a week. I was in research mode, meaning I was reading a huge Head-Fi thread on them. I then checked them out thinking they must be gone by now. But no, they were still there, soā€¦

True enough. They always have some decent open box deals.
I REALLY hope theyā€™re not just OK.

I am in the process of trying to move gear out right now, but I just couldnā€™t help myself. So far I am 0 for 2 with planarā€™s.
