Thanks for the detailed review. Your experience is similar to some others I have heard from. I love my Campfire Orion, but I probably will sell them as I am due for some upgrades. Plus the Ikko OH-1 just sounds good and fits really well for me. I have some Shozy Form 1.1 that should be arriving this week, got them for $40, which is a steal. I will probably just wait until the right upgrade presents itself.
No worries! Iām just excited to receive them, and I saw your name and figured Iād ask. Always nice to hear some positive reassurance when you make a big purchase and these never gained much of a foot hold. After buying up most of the ZMF line, I am in the opposite boat as you. Now I am working on my iems since my desktop setups are solid for now, although the i4 isnāt really one (iem). More of an on-ear
I personally think they should be priced at around the $900 I paid for them. Not sure they are worth $200 more than the Andromedas at list price
I forgot to say itā¦but nice review too. I read it again just to make sure I had absorbed everything. You covered all of the basesā¦well done.
Thanks man. Iām not particularly big on audiophile catchphrases, so I sometimes have a hard time conveying when something sounds good to my ear in a way that wonāt be challenged by measurements or other reviews. I donāt often EQ unless something is totally broken sounding, so this is for the stock sound. That said, I may end up EQing the i4s, since they seem to be doing the new Audeze deal where youāre supposed to use a Cipher cable or their Reveal app to make it sound they way they intend.
Iām with you on the eq thing. I like to find gear that I donāt need to āfixā with eq (even though most people like to eq Audeze, whoāve done a good job at offering plug-ins).
I listen to my Xās stock, but that partly due to my use of a streamer and not a desktop for the setup theyāre on.
The i-series is different in that they offer the cipher cable, which was pretty much Audezeās intent.
Even if something desperately needs EQ, I refuse. In order for equalizer APO to work, you have to enable audio enhancements in Windows. Some disagree with me, but I notice a pretty big sound degradation with audio enhancements on.
The only way Iād ever use EQ is through something like a Loki that is inline, or through my DAP, which I only typically do for a small bass boost.
Bunch of crazy āpuristsā we areā¦
No software sorcery here!
Yeah, Iād rather not eq if at all possible. The i4s are a little different than the iSine series where the cipher cable seems to be almost mandatory for the iSines, but they still recommend their plugin. It reminds me of games getting ported to PC where they release an incomplete product at full price and let the modding community āfinishā it. Although, to be fair, those of this in this hobby are always looking for a way to maximize our gear. If I was responsible for the tuning at Audeze or another company, Iām sure it would drive me insane to see people āfixingā the tuning I spent so much time on.
Iām also all about analog EQ or headphone modding if possible.
Otherwise youāll need X number of EQs times X number of headphones times X number of places you listen to musicā¦ augh not for me anyway.
RNHP ordered!!
Other half of the M0Nster stack (Bifrost 2) coming on Friday!!!
Those two stacks serve very different purposes lol (also does one include a headphone in a stack )
Honestly at this point for my desk 1 I donāt even have stacks anymore, everything is on a switcher so I can just select a dac and select and amp I want to listen to
switcher rec?
Depends on your budget, and how you want to set up your signal chain. Mineās set up 6x6 so I have 6 stereo xlr in and 6 stereo xlr out, so I have my dacs connected to the in and amps to the out, that way I can route the dac of my choice to the amp of my choice.
see some cheap opts on amazon but itās multiple in and a single out versus iām after the exact opposite. single source with multiple outs.
Balanced or unbalanced?
