What did you buy today? (Part 1)

I got and Audeze microphone for my LCD X and I broke down and Audeze Vegan pads were ordered. So I have a set of Dekoni that will no longer be used.

Lol, curious on your thoughts for the 4xx and a3, should be pretty sweet :+1:

It finally seems like the A3 will do what I need. (mute or switch) and as for the 4xx I already like those. I feel they are going to get better in time. I was considering the A3 and pulled the trigger after reading and reading and reading posts here as well as your words!! Thanks!

rubber keycaps for sweaty palms. and a new keyboard is significantly more expensive than a keycao set and I like my current keyboard I just want to change how it looks

I just ordered a set of Edifier S2000 MkIII. I’ve been wanting a set of speakers, but they had to be powered, as I don’t have a power amp yet. Very excited to have more than headphones to listen to!

Cool. I’ll be interested in reading what you think of them hooked up to your various tube setups.

They’re here and damn do they pair well with tubes. Been trying them out on the Stock DV, Ken-Rad VT231 Black Glass + NOS RCA 6AS7 Combo essentially makes the 6kHz treble issue non-existent. Gonna try it out with my other amp once that’s been tweaked (that’s why I’m using the stock DV instead of that, bought the HD800 particularly to pair it with that amp). So far on the DV it’s damn wide and sounds great, vocals in particular stand out and the bass is plentiful, the Ken-Rad does the same thing with the HD600, but it stands out more with the HD800.

I’ll pair it with the Bendix 6080 Redbank slotted plates and see how that works.

Note: That’s my Dad’s DV, but since we live in the same house I’m just borrowing it for some night-time listening, he usually uses it during the day or when he’s working (he’s working from home now because of the Covid thing, so he uses it while working now).

Wow grats, those are very nice headphones. I never thought of pairing it with the tube amplifier. I guess that would resolve any issues with that treble spike. I should try to pair my Arya with a hybrid tube amplifier. but the rnhp sounds so good I don’t know what hybrid tube amplifier could compete with it. Anyway how’s the detail on them? I hear they are detail monsters. has the Soundstage increased or reduced with the use of a tube amp?

Probably the most detailed pair of headphones I’ve had, even more than the Beyer T1 Gen 2. They manage to be really wide but preserve the detail beautifully. The tube makes them quite a bit wider vs a SS (then again the only SS I have atm is a Magni Heresy, so gonna reserve judgement on that until I build the Beta 22).

The best thing about them is that the effects of Tube rolling are really noticeable. Like with the HD600 and the T1 tube rolling has a subtle effect, but on the HD800, the tubes really stand out, which is great since I can mix and match quite a lot and get a different sound every time.

The 800s is ideal to be on a tube, I personally wouldn’t suggest owning a 800s without having a tube amp lol (most senns as well), it really kinda completes the headphone

Yeah, on the Magni they seemed a bit harsh and narrower (they’re wide, but not nearly as wide than on a tube, also I’m basing the SS thing on a Magni so I’ll reserve full judgement until I make the Beta 22). On a tube though, they shine, and it makes the effects of Tube rolling quite apparent. Same with the HD600 too, they’re not bad on a SS, but they seem to be lackluster unless they’re paired with a tube imo.

I guess the Senn stuff really is based around tube gear (I mean their electrostatic stuff is designed with tubes in mind too, so I guess the designers of Senn Headphones really do like tubes).

Alright just did the Dupont mod on them (It takes about 2 minutes if you peel the cover over the driver fast enough). Essentially they sound the same, just that the 6 kHz spike is even less noticeable even on a SS. Used some Foam tips I had lying around although the Dupont mod recommends Shure tips so Ima order those right now. Idk how nobody tried this before honestly, takes maybe 5 minutes at most and seems to be easily reversible since the the cover tends to re-stick itself and the adhesive isn’t that strong honestly.

Note: Just realized the Dupont thread on SBAF is from 2016, geeze, idk why but I felt it came out like in 2018 or something.

Extra Note: Thinking about it, I’d imagine no one wanted to poke a finger into the driver to remove the dust-cover and essentially risk the loss of over a grand because of it. Thankfully DIY peeps are willing to risk it for the sake of science. Either way makes a great alternative to the HD800S and the forum page is pretty clear as to how to do it.
