I’m really enjoying it. Sounds good, for the time being seems to have more power then my TA-10(but that could be thanks to some of the issues I’ve been having), the bass boost actually does what it should, so I tend to just leave it on all the time, and I actually bring it to class with me and use it there.
I ordered my Ananda (as topic related) and as reply to your comment to antpage2 …
and wonder … if I should open a new thread for this:
would you consider a pure tube(as preamp) into a solid state amp(789)
as “similar” soundwise to a hybrid like the LYR 3?
I have a few options on a list and wonder what to add for tubiness
-
the Bottlehead Crack OTL build for 315 plus shipping and import taxes (19% at least)
-
the Drop Eddie Current Studio jr - don´t remeber the price and it´s not available at the moment
-
ifi iTube2 Preamp for about 450 with prime shipping (this can´t be switched off and has to be disonnected, if the tubiness is not wanted
-
Schiit Mjolnir 2 used for 699€ or maybe even a bit less … balanced … preamp, if needed - like it a lot, though formfactor is nothing I rave about and I know my wife won´t be super happy with this beast
-
LYR 3 hybrid
I want to keep my following chain
SMSL SU-8 to THX AAA 789 or ifi xDSD to THX AAA 789
with Focal Elegia, DT 1990s, HD 660s(will be replaced with the HD600), the Ananda and later a ZMF
so I would skip the hybrids and finally have a usable DT 1990 Pro/ HD600 and later a ZMF on tubes
I think getting a tube preamp would do something pretty similar tbh, so I would say that would be the way to go. The ananda does not sound great on an otl amp like the crack. The eddie current would work, but it may run out of steam with the ananda imo. You could look into something like a schiit saga + or a freya + that would keep your chain imo
If you were to get a 600 and zmf and prioritize them, the crack would make way more sense imo
thank you very mutch!
and the Crack wouldn´t harm the 1990s either… ? they are should be ok with 250 Ohm(if not, it´s the last chance for this headphone and I sell it finally)
yes I would prio the 600, the ZMF and the 1990s for Tube listening
the Elegia and the Ananda are perfect as they are on a solid state or mobile DAC/Amp
so the BC Crack without or with speedball … plus material for a very cool housing - love the idea! and a friend has all tools we need
the freya is another cool one, I forgot to list!
I will give the ideas a bit time to settle
I really liked the Elise mk2 and the Espressivo mk2
The whole range is great, those were my alternatives to the Audiovalve Solaris
I ended up going for the cayin ha300 over the solaris because I thought it sounded better imo. I think the solaris is a great all in one, but I think the whole aio idea tacks on cost that you could spend on a pure amp and get better sound imo
Nope, the crack would do great with the 1990 as well (perhaps add the speedball upgrade too)
There are a ton of tube amps in that price range to consider though lol
thank you music-lover
I saw this one and know nothing about this brand
could even get one orgianized buying this in poland for me
it´s 144 and 315 $ … ähh 459 incl Speedball + shipping and 19% import taxes… plus material for the box and the plate… though you get a unique thing
How much can you get feliks audio stuff over there?
499€ for the Echo could be in my range
Hmmmmmmmmm. That would be pretty sweet too. I think if you like a more refined tube, the echo would be pretty nice, or if you wanted to build a more fun tube amp the crack is there, either one would be great
Yeah, snorting beryllium drivers wasn’t enough.
Well, the guy I bought the dac from just offered me a pretty good condition sennheiser he60 with a stax adapter for a price I can’t decline because I bought the dac from him, so now that’s sitting on my back seat lol
I have only heard a he60 briefly before, so I am very curious to see how it shapes out on a nicer energizer. I double checked it was in proper working order before I left and it was so that’s good
Always cool meeting people in person!
That is quite nice of him!
A good friend often buys old analog stuff and on some occsions he went home with crazy deals. People keep the sweetheart pieces until they meet you and sympathy / trust kicks in
Did I mention that getting to that dac was like tying to enter a secret society lol? I swear it was like some special club to just get into on who had one and also get to go listen to. I guess when you get to that level of high end it must be some sort of cult lol
Haha yes! That is what I was talking about
So cool this secrets don’t show off with online shopping
