Those are comfy. I think Steve has one also.
“Steve”… lol. Thanks Pasta for giving that one away!
I ordered a pair of m40x as I needed a closed back at work (I am listening to some ost and twitch streams at work while I do programming). I had to get them because my current VERY cheap 20 cad pair broke and I kept hearing good comments about the m40x so I took them. I don’t need TOO much in sound quality, but it should do the job.
I also ordered a JDS Labs OL switcher because I still love my 95x, but to switch to my 58x, I need to mess with unplugging and replugging an RCA cable to either the energizer or the atom. Since having to do this kind of defeats the purpose to have 2 imo very nicely complementary headphones, well I bought a switchter
Wondering how the m40x would sound because this is actually the first GOOD pair of closed back I am getting. I am not really into closed backs, but here, it needed to be so this should be interesting.
Did she? Wasn’t it on his name tag or something?
She has said “STEVE” and “STEVEN” very prominently in some of the unboxing videos to pick on him.
Oh, I don’t watch them. His name tag from the PSLabs video (?) was visible, I think.
You can also google him. “Steven Ciofalo” is the first thing I saw. I assumed it was correct from the previously mentioned video.
Our good friend Zeos has made a valient attempt to hide his secret identity, but if you search hard enough it’s all there. What on Earth anyone would do with that information is beyond me.
Same - but then you get the EU who have GDPR regulations protecting that information to the nth degree for whatever reason/
I think it’s kind of pointless to try and hide your identity if your work is in creating media, Especially if you’re “on camera”.
My guess is it has more to do with creating a sense of mystery, and lore than anything else. It’s a good gimmick.
My search was literally clicking on the FIRST item of a web search, so no super sleuthing was required on my part.
Schiit Mani
Emotiva PT-100
And lots of vinyl.
What are you thinking of the sound so far?
Also that’s a nice laptop
Sounds absolutely amazing, less power than my modded Darkvoice with 300 ohm, like full blast P2 is about 1/2 DV, I imagine tubes do better with higher impedance loads, and vice versa with the P2 doing a much better job with Planars/low impedance, want to compare my friend’s M40X to see how a 33 ohm load reacts on both, I imagine it’ll prefer the P2 over the DV. I’ll post later when he gives them to me.
Still half way on the P2 is more than enough for my listening levels with the HD600s, DV is pretty dang loud with the mods so I use it WAY low when the audio source has a large waveform, like at 1/3 the pot, 1/2 to 2/3 if the source is lower.
Also I’m also expecting some Argon’s later so wanna see how it powers those. Still, first impressions, they make the HD600s sing, and a great contrast for my DV, and hopefully withy custom amp (Cases come Tuesday).
Oh also the laptop is a Panasonic CF-30, it’s old, but has absolutely 0 noise or issues that can be heard via USB, like none, which is great. I have a desktop PC, but the motherboard has grounding issues making USB noisy af, and it has no optical so fucc. Also the CF-30 has touch screen so that’s dope, and it runs Windows 7 with Foobar.
Also yes I tried to resolve the grounding issues, but nothing I’ve tried works, I think it’s an intrinsic issue with the mother board and not with the case.
Oh also it’s old, but I upgraded the USB ports to 2.0 when I got it, so it isn’t limited to 24bit/96kHz. No noise whatsoever, so me be a happy audiophile.
Ok Just tested the M40X, and both are for some really odd reason, equally capable of running the M40X to Headphone breaking levels. Like the Phonitor 2 slightly edges out the Darkvoice but like, it’s weird, I though the difference would be more pronounced. The Bass is much more defined and quicker on the Phonitor but idk, I was expecting a major difference, but they still sound good on the DV, just with a tubier bass I guess, less refined and more out there, but not in a bad way. Let me try some Aeons.
My theory is because it’s still a Dynamic Headphone, so lets try Planars and see.
Ok so tried my Aeons and yeah the Phonitor clearly has more power and powers them MUCH better. I still have to push the pot a bit on the Phonitor but there isn’t a lack of bass, but the Darkvoice needs to be at full to get close to the same volume, and it’s obvious it doesn’t like Planars, the bass just sounds distorted comparatively, most likely due to the high impedance output, I think it’s 120 Ohm since I’m using a 6AS7 GEC for the output.
Edit: Ok so at 120 ohm it needs to be at full and clips, with my custom amp, 2 6AS7 GECS have half that impedance, and 5998s have half that, and 6528s have even less. Kinda curious since I thought the DV would be a total lost cause, but if the impedance can be lowered by using higher transconductance tubes, well, who knows?
Then again I am talking about a Set using two dual triodes, one per channel, and capable of a 5 amp heater. Essentially it’ll dwarf the Phonitor, but kinda curious. In size I mean, I have no idea how it’ll perform till I build it, numbers aren’t enough, oh and what adjustments it’ll need to take advantage of a High Trans Conductance OTL design (Think Zana Deux on Steroids). Talking 40 Lbs of HP Tube Stuff.
Oh God, Abbey Road . . . god, I really didn’t like the Aeons on the 789 . . . but the Phonitor knows what the Aeons want. Like REALLY know what they want.
DON’T MENTION THE WAR!!!
we never use the “word” starting with GD and ending on PR, it just summons all the bad thing you can imagine.
An example: when one of my employees report in sick, I am not allowed to write an email to the rest of the office saying “Steve is sick today”. It has to be: “Steve is out of office today”
ARGHHHHHHHH!!!
Me want…
Ngl, cost me 1200 bucks B-Stock, totally worth it, no regrets. Try and get it B-Stock, so worth it ;-; I can finally enjoy my Aeons I bought 2 years ago.
Also it may sound like I’m overhyping it, but at some point one of the drivers got noticeably lower than the other, so the Left/Center/Right knob helps so much. Totally implementing that into my amp. It’s so annoying having a headphone be off center, but now, I can finally use my Aeons, and love them too.
I had one in sight, but someone got to it first. So now I am prowling the net to find one.
Was it on Reverb? The silence gives me the impression it was the one on Reverb.
