What did you buy today? (Part 1)

Forgot to mention I ordered some Sony MH755 off of e-Bay the other night.

You have the ZMF Auetuer now and want different sound signature. I would not recommend the Senns then instead, and if you are looking to keep under $300 i would recommend the nighthawk carbons for a different sound signature. That or go for a set of planars, the Senns would be closer to the ZMF’s and not offer anything different or extra, just a downgrade basically. Unless you pick up the Senn 800s, those would be different. My opinion, feel free to check my profile, i own a few pieces and speak honestly to your question.

What if your budget wasn’t limited to $300. In your opinion what would be the best headphone to compliment the Auteurs?

Hard question, and i have been contemplating it too.I spent 6 hours recently listening to “good” headphones to compliment my own Autuer’s. The ZMF’s are good, real good, and the difference dropping another $1k-2k more makes (in my opinion) is less than 10% - 15% or so w/ what i tried out. The ZMF’s also take well to pad swaps, amp swaps and EQ so you get allot out of them and can change sound signatures enough to give you diversity. They also scale well and take to quality amplification.

IMO, Because I want a “different” sound signature and i already have a few pieces that offer me variety, I’m considering Grado’s, not sure which yet, and the HD 800s. I also want a planar thats easier to drive than my HE6se but has the same performance, so maybe Kennerrton Thror or Audeze something or other. Understand something, these ZMF’s are realy good, hell i’m even considering Aeolus, because they might compliment them.

Good luck, I’m curious what you decide. Another vote on the Nighthawk carbons, they are different and won’t set you back an arm and a leg. Otherwise you are gonna have to spend. Unless, you buy the Koss 95x from massdrop, those are “different” and enough quality to compliment the ZMF’s.

The shows are fun. I went to CANJAM SoCal last summer and then RMAF in the Fall. Might do SoCal again this year.

I got to hear the HE-1 at CANJAM, though RMAF has ridiculous 2-channel stuff. Got to hear Dark Side of the Moon on a half-million dollar Sonus Faber setup. Made my whole trip. Another highlight was finally hearing Focal’s full-size loudspeakers after collecting so many of their headphones. Also met Zeos, which, come to think about it is the whole reason I ended up on this site…

Both shows have some show specials. I got my ZMFs (Eikon + Auteur) at a CANJAM special rate, and Moon-Audio had a discount on all items at RMAF (used that on an A&K DAP). Noble had a tempting discount on Khans and Katanas at both shows, but I couldn’t stretch my funds far enough to take advantage.

Anyway, the shows are well worth attending if you can. They’re a great way to gain familiarity with gear that you typically probably only get to read about as well as an opportunity to try out new things.

I know you don’t do drugs, but then you say stuff like that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Jokes aside, that sounds amazing. Just to be able to hear or even just see some of that gear is awesome e

Music is the best drug.

And, yes, it’s a real treat to see and experience some of the most elaborate and exotic audio equipment on the planet. Boulder Amps were another highlight. Still not sure whether they’re named after the place where the company was founded or the form factor of their monoblocks…

I don’t do drugs either but when you discover hi-fi, and soundstage, and imaging, and planar bass/kick slam, and you find “clean” electronic music… Holy shit, that “VR” or “holographic rendering” of all “fake/virtual” electronic sounds surrounding you is trippy.

Also Zeos talked about “X-Bass withdrawal syndrome” recently, lol.

I’m Talking about the pro version

Hmm, I didnt know there was a difference. whats the difference between the 2?

The tuning and I believe the Ohm load too

Edit: The tuning, cable and the pads are different, Ohm Load is the same.

$50…

Yeah… $50

I had a listen to the Koss 95x at RMAF last September. Now it was in a noisy room so I know my listening experience of them isn’t something I can really comment on, but I didn’t love their build quality. Then again I know they had to do that to keep the costs so affordable for a electrostatic.

I think you’re right about Audeze being a solid popular choice. The little bit of listening I’ve had with them I’ve been impressed. Their line-up confuses me a little bit as to which of their cans is the best one to buy though.

Who knows, maybe just settle for some Verite Closed-back and call it good. Those Auteur are just too good haha

So this arrived today.

Tried it briefly, connects automatically to my Xiaomi. I haven’t had luck with my Fiio M9 though, maybe it doesn’t work via usb. (Optical/coaxial maybe?).
