Just did a ā€œgutsā€ refresh on my PC, wonā€™t have everything until Friday but:

Ryzen 7 3800X ā†’ Ryzen 7 9700X
16gb DDR4 ā†’ 32gb DDR5
X870 mobo (Gigabyte Eagle Wifi 7)
New cooler just because (Bequiet! Black Rock 4 ā†’ Black Rock 5), gifting the old cooler to a coworker that needs a better solution for his i14600K.

I intended to hold out a little longer but Iā€™m getting some bottleneck that causing stuttering/slowdown on 4K video and some games when thereā€™s way too many particle effects on screen. GPU is a 3080 so that stays for a while longer, all of the old guts were bought back in 2020 so that helped me rationalize it. My setup is designed for Max settings or close @ 1440p/144hz.

Meze Alba and Moondrop Robin both came in today. The Robin is surprisingly very good for a TWS IEM. I donā€™t really care about the anime tie in, but they are more comfortable than the AirPods Pro 2 (saying a lot) IMO. And the latency in ā€œgamingā€ mode is fantastic. Definitely like the tuning with the ā€œbass modeā€. Not actually overly bassy. Pretty tasteful. Good treble as well. For $99 extremely good IMO. Been using them with my desktop PC all morning and so far so good. Have yet to test the Alba.

Swan Oasis 140 here! (and Douk A5 amp for it.)

First impressions of the Oasis 140 (with the Douk A5) vs the M10 Plus with sub at around 90%.

Sub-bassā€¦ doesnt exist on the 140ā€¦

Mid-bass quantity is a LOT lower on the 140 compared to the M10 Plus and also seems to have less texture. But it is cleaner and tighterā€¦

Lower-mids is cleaner on the 140 but may lack some warmth/note-weight compared to the M10 Plus.

Upper-mids quite a bit more forward and cleaner on the 140. Perhaps a bit smoother on the 140 while the M10 Plus is a bit peakier here but still on the warmer side (cuz of the bass) and overall smooth.

Treble: A bit smoother than the M10 Plus but is brighter (not sure if its cuz of more treble directly or indirect cuz of bass difference).

Upper-treble: A bit airier on the 140.

WIth the sub knob on the M10 Plus turned to 0 (-6 db compared to stock) though.

Biggest difference is that the sub-bass on the M10 Plus is now worse than the 140, although the M10 Plus still has a bit more mid-bass quantity and is more textured.

Mids and treble difference is much more apparent now, with the 140 being noticeably smoother and has a bit mor warmth to it

With the M10 Plus sub volume at stock (in the middle 0db).

Better sub-bass on the M10 Plus but mostly the same for the rest like before with the sub volume at minimum.

Overall, the Swan Oasis 140 desperately needs a sub to both get some actual sub-bass and also to increase the mid-bass quantity (and hopefully more textured). As it is now though, unless you listen to genres that REALLY does not have any bass whatsoever (maybe classical could work ok) I just do not see the reason why Zeos would hype this up as much as he did as this is missing a HUGE chunk of the music (sub and arguably mid-bass). The M10 Plus is the better kit as of now. Although the Oasis 140 is quite a bit better if you dont have the sub volume turned up more than the default but then again if you are buying the M10 Plus why would you not want to use the subā€¦

I will likely get the Cambridge Audio Minx X301 to pair with this as they are priced pretty well on ebay for a refurb from them officially.

I will wait until then before I conclude my thoughts (and if i want to condemn Zeos for thisā€¦)ā€¦

Yeah, Iā€™m just using anime as a generic term. Itā€™s anime style and all that. I do watch anime, but I do not do ā€˜gotchaā€™ā€¦ just on principle. Even though I think Hoyo is an insanely talented developer. Lol Iā€™ve watched a friend play it a bit.

The Kbear KB02, because i was curious about bone conduction.

The Swofy M503Pro DAP. I wanted something cheap that I wouldnā€™t feel bad if I donā€™t use it much. It was mostly for evenings in the bedroom for super low volume listening.

Does it vibrate at all? Is a bass shaker type at least.

I didnā€™t feel it, but it has nice bass to it. They donā€™t scale well, but at mid and lower volumes, it sounds pretty solid. I think they are a decent value, but I am not sure about the bone conduction.

I need more listening time to sort out what is going, but I have been dealing with some tinnitus for the last few weeks, so I am not getting much time that works for that.

Sigh, another one thenā€¦

Doesnt look like it with how how muich upper-mids it has.

So far, immediate first impressions, I am extremely impressed. Like extreme, extreme. I am feeling giddy listening to them. Listening to them on the Element IV with a single filter to add a rise in the sub-bass to give them extra impact. The rest of the response is stock and the timbre sounds extremely good and natural all the way through the treble, maybe the best Iā€™ve heard so far? Iā€™ve also played with reducing 5k area a bit (which was recommended in Resolves review), but I personally canā€™t tell much of a difference there. But Iā€™ll stop thereā€¦ gonna settle into them first and see if maybe some flaw or issue comes up or maybe something I do not like. Lol Will post some proper impressions after a couple weeks, probably.

Edit:
For those curious, this is how the headphone graphs against Harman using Resolveā€™s PEQ setup (NO SMOOTHING!). I add a bit more sub bass tilt to it, but this is unequivocally the best experience Iā€™ve had with something tuned to Harman. Usually stuff in the treble or ear gain bother me, but this sounds just super smooth, tbh. I also personally add a bit more sub-bass and these can take a seemingly infinite amount of it. And it sounds clean regardless, giving it that impact you can only get from planars. I also think it helps that the lower mids, upper sub is filled in a bit compared to Harman. It helps it not sound overly lean, IMO
For graph sniffers, this could be an ā€˜ultimateā€™ headphone, IMO. LMAO. Subjectively, itā€™s also rediculously good, Iā€™ll say that. It sounds very nice with everything, especially with some extra oomph in the sub-bass. Itā€™s really uniquely good, IMO.
