Update DX340 tuning,

The tuning, debloating and even new FPGA audio processing ‘routes’ are well into beta development. 5th beta as of today. I’m giving feedback and testing trying to make it as stable for every use case as possible. Beta 4 and 5 have been 100% stable for me. Now onto more tuning profiles and then whittling them down to the ‘best’.

Battery life is significantly better during idle. Audio apps get placed on ‘big’ procs, OS really, really wants them on ‘little’ power saving procs but SQ suffers.

These improvements put the stock sound to shame and hopefully at least some of the debloat work can be integrated by iBasso in the future.

Beyond the removal of unnecessary apps it does require rooting the device as the modules function at the most basic level of the OS and HW. Risk is super minimal however since iBasso makes the Android image file available. If all goes absolutely sideways the image is simply reloaded to storage and away you go.

That said, the rooting process it really not difficult, especially once you’ve done it once and have a grasp of the process, albeit a bit tedious and fiddly. So if you’re not already pretty techie and not up for a learning curve regardless, I’d suggest not attempting until you’ve had a great night sleep and nothing to do for a day  or just be happy with the sound as is.

But those who persevere will be handsomely rewarded. The debloating alone makes for a significantly darker/blacker background. The stage is wider as the mastering calls for it. The instruments come from their own space or not as the mastering calls for it.

The FPGA are much more subtle but moderately more significant than the stock iBasso H1-H5 filters. We’re coming up with some descriptive names just to bias the user. lol.

I’ve been enjoying AMP17 for a few weeks now. With the latest package of tweaks I find that 12V Super Gain can be a bit too much, too dynamic, when just wanting to relax. It’s quite a marked difference over the Stouthart (now deprecated as he sold his 340) tweaks and massive over stock.

I listened to stock v1.06 for ~30 mins after flashing to prepare to root. There is so very much better sound to be unlocked for zero cost but some knowledge and time.

This was actually yesterday. The entertainment center/shelves finally came in. I jumped in the truck and picked it up. I then proceeded to spend the afternoon building the both the shelves and bedroom system. Turned out pretty nice, I think. It sounds fantastic.

The Triangles are still surprising me how nice they sound. This is all the bedroom will ever need.

Got an Oldie But Goodie in the mail today:

Fearless x Crinacle Dawn

Pretty happy with them from just some cursory testing with random tracks and Youtube. Good tuning and tonality, and the bass is surprisingly robust for such an old BA/EST set although it does roll off precipitously in gain from 30hz to the low 20s. I’ll try to get some impressions up once I have some time and tip-rolling with them.

Not today, but what I am about to do tomorrow. I am about to meetup with a guy who got interested on my Volume S, and I hope this transaction tomorrow will go smoothly overall for meetups can be risky after all. That’s why I am bringing someone with me in order for this one to be no trouble for me at all. Wish me luck on this fellas.

Public space and a buddy with you is always the best course of action for meeting up with randos. Best of all if you can arrange for it in front of a police station, but any public, well-traveled and well-lit place is suitable in my experience.

Never mind, the dude decided to change his mind and not proceed with the meet up. Instead I am going to get my set of Volume S traded for an another set, which is the Kiwi Ears Astral. I am going to have to hire a rider to pick up the item from him and then let him pick his own rider in order to pick up my Vol. S. Oh and we’re gonna give each other links for each IEM to be delivered just to be assured.

Actually, yesterday I finally got to test out the new mower and got the front yard all mowed and trimmed up. A huge amount of prep had to be done as the ice storm caused a lot of tree branch and debris to fall. This all had to be removed before I could run the mower; didn’t want to run over something and ruin my brand-new machine! Strangely, I found this to be very satisfying work, and the mower did a great job. I love how this mower has a manual deck height adjuster as well as three speeds that are independent of the throttle. This way, you can set your speed while the blades are always running at max. Makes for a much better cut.

And today, the weather changed yet again (a common occurrence in East Texas), and it has rained all day, giving the yard a nice drink. I suspect I’ll be mowing again soon. Which I actually don’t mind, because as it turns out, mowing is kinda fun!
