šŸ”¶ ZMF Aeolus

The Aeolus has a TPE diaphragm

I think Iā€™m going to actively start saving up for an aeolus, Iā€™ve been messing around in the sub 600 dollar range for a while now and itā€™s time for a more totl purchase me thinks. Also the sound signature is something I know I will love, plus another tube friendly headphone canā€™t hurt.

I just ordered a pair of Aeolus. Got the standard cable in 2.5 balanced, upgrade cable in 4 pin, stock pads and added velour pads. Is it normal to be panicked after spending so much on headphones? :scream:. Although I am very excited once I finally get them. Will they Compliment my current Lineup well?

Emu teak (probably my faves
Sennheiser 650
Sennheiser 58x jubilee
Hifiman 4xx
Hifiman 37x with hybrid pads
Meze 99 massdrop editions
Beyerdynamic 990 (is that right? Looks wrong hmm)
Koss kph30i
Sony mdr1
Audio technica mx50
Audio technica dsr9

Power:
schiit jotunheim with multibit dac
Hiby r6 pro
EarStudio es100

As you can see, 500 bucks is my current top for audio gear, so I was hesitant on this purchase but Iā€™ve been eyeballing these and the auteurs for a while, but these seemed like a better all rounder and a bit cheaper. Ahhhhhhhh Iā€™m nervous!!! This forum helped me make the push.

Also, damn you zeos! He is the driving force behind most of my purchases. I usually trust him when he says something is good. Hasnā€™t let me down yet.

I think youā€™ll like them moving up from the Emu Teaks. Iā€™m still getting used to mine, but Iā€™d say that arenā€™t super amp picky for a 300ohm headphone. You should be fine even though I havenā€™t used the jotunheim or hiby r6 myself

I love the jotunheim but havenā€™t used much else. I ironically use my es100 and r6 more, to use them on the couch or in bed rather than my desk. Yeah I was hoping that these would be a good upgrade to the teaks. I used to think I was all neutral but I think I like a touch of warmth, seeing as I like my teams more than sennheisers. This is also why I was hesitant to get the auteurs. Still scared to be honest. The thought of not liking 1200 dollar cans is scary :scream:. But Iā€™m hopeful.

Do you like the velour or stock pads more? I figure that I can maybe fit the stock pads on my emu and make some attenuation rings if I prefer the velours. Itā€™s worth a shot as the teaks pads arenā€™t the most comfortable.

does the Jotunheim suffer from compression?

Iā€™ve only used them with the stock pads so far. They are warmer than the teaks are, but not overly so

Not that I know of. At least nothing that o have noticed. Itā€™s always sounded amazing to me. I just just use it as much since itā€™s in my office, which is also the colder part of the house. But I will he back on it once I get these. I want a tube one day but a long time from now. My girlfriend is already acting like Iā€™m crazy for getting these. She just doesnā€™t understand. Her favorite pairs are my kph30is

Ahhhhh scary. I donā€™t want much warmer than the teaks. But I guess the suede pads will help too. I said velour earlier. My bad.

How else do they compare to the teaks? If you donā€™t mind my asking. They have been my go to for a while. The mezes are great. But maybe a tad too warm. Do you haves those to compare to?

rofl, yeah it seems most women dont get it. maybe their thinking about the jewelry youā€™re not getting them for it.

Hahaha. Luckily she isnā€™t a jewelry person . He response is always ā€œthey sound nice, but how are they different?ā€

If you like the Mezes and donā€™t find them too warm, you have nothing to worry about. They are not nearly that bass-heavy, and the bass thatā€™s there is a lot more refined. I also donā€™t think you need to go crazy with a tube amp for them either. They donā€™t seem to benefit from it as much as the Verites and Eikons

Thanks! I hear that the auteurs compliment these well. Maybe one day. Thanks man. Youā€™re very helpful! I was afraid of them being as bass heavy as the mezes. I like the mezes since they are easy to listen too, but sometimes they are a little too bass heavy.

I havenā€™t heard the Auteurs, but I own the Eikons and they have the same driver so Iā€™d imagine they would be somewhat similar. Theyā€™re really good. All the ZMFs sound unique, but luckily all of them sound good in their own way

This is a dark path. Ahhhhhhhhh.

If it helps, I think itā€™s the right path

I agree. Itā€™s just funny because Iā€™ve been watching the ether cxā€™s for like a year and was like ā€œnah I canā€™t do it, I canā€™tā€œ. But I jumped on these a lot faster, And for a steeper price. I want to say that I will be done for a while, but I know that is not the case. Iā€™m excited though. And Iā€™m pretty good at giving attention to all of my headphones still. None of them go unlistened (not a word but Iā€™ll use it) to for more than a month maybe. Besides my 650s, I wasnā€™t a big fan, I actually like my jubilee more sadly.

650s really need the right amp, I didnā€™t really get the hype for the Sennheiser 600 range until I paired them with a good tube amp, their just a completely different headphone.

Iā€™ve heard that as well. Iā€™ve wanted the dark voice for so long but havenā€™t jumped on it. I shouldā€™ve jumped on it on massdrop long ago. But I was like ā€œehhhhh I canā€™t spend another 200 on an ampā€ then got these Aeolusā€™ haha. Plus Iā€™d need a new dac since my only dac is the multibit in the jotunheim. Could I run my jotunheim line out into the darkvoice? Or I guess my r6 could run line out into it. Hmmmmmm :face_with_monocle:

I honestly wish Iā€™d just gotten a separate dac instead on one built j to the jotunheim back in the day. Hindsight is 20/20
