Thanks for the recommendationā¦The Clears to me are just about perfect for my musical taste and the metallic sound some state I dont seem to have an issue withā¦so when I say its a tall order for an Aeolus to be as good as the Clears, I only can go on what I read etcā¦Several folks that really like Clears have since stated the Aeolus is much betterā¦and again this is subjective for sureā¦
To me tonality and musical accuracy are paramount and the Clears bring this to the table in spades IMO.
So I Really still want to hear the Aeolus and hope to !!
I will take a look at the AT adx 5000ā¦never heard these as wellā¦
Personally I wouldnāt agree with this, I would say the clear is better resolving, with also better spatial recreation and separation, but I think the aeolus has a bit more natural timbre and is smoother and less harsh (so works better with poorer quality music) and takes better to a tube, but honestly they are kinda shooting for a different goal sonically anyway (clear going for neutral and accurate reference, aeolus is going for more just fun relax not care sound), not the most apples to apples comparison (they donāt sound that alike). I know for myself that I much prefer the auteur/eikon from zmf over the aeolus but thatās more of a preference thing for me
The adx5000 is going to be something that you might enjoy if you like the clears and 600, def worth a look into. Great natural neutral sound on a tube, pretty nice.
Clearly lots of people love the Aeolus, I can see what there is to like about it.
But I feel the Eikons, and I assume the Autuer are a clear step up, the Aeolus to me is so smooth I find vocals and some instruments lack good timbre, something the Eikons excel at IME.
But I suppose it depends on what you are looking for in a headphone.
I havenāt heard the Aeolus, but they have been recommended for me. Probably due to my fondness of the Porta Pro, of which Iāve joked is a āBaby Aeolusā.
The Clears are definitely an analytical headphone that does a great job of maintaining some neutral warmth. Not as warm as my preference, but very enjoyable.
I can agree with this. The eikons also have much more enjoyable impact to me as well, and a slightly more natural timbre too, they also tend to be more detailed and capable where the aeolus kinda doesnāt have the same technicalities by design, itās def not the most resolution you can get for the price, but itās not supposed to be
If you get a chance to try the zmf lineup I would suggest you do so, might be something you end up liking, who knows lol. The Verite is actually a more fun utopia imo lol, actually kinda close, and the eikon/auteur are pretty great biodynamics if you want to get into that realm. Also their closed sound just as good as their open imo
Yeah I agree itās all subjective. I think more than anything the Aeolus are just a great high end warm pair which is totally different from the cleats from what Iāve read. One of those pairs that are very full sounding with great bass yet still very detailed. I think the real magic of these is in the mids. Vocals are amazing.
But of course all of this is subjective. Any headphone can be better than another based on the listener. I love my Aeolus and canāt wait till I decide to get a tuba to try them on that. I definitely want to get more zmfs in the future.
Another amazing thing you buy is that lifetime driver warranty which is bizzare. And I love supporting the smaller company (Zach and Bevin were great to work with. Great quality control considering only a handful of people work on your headphones. This is almost as big of a selling point as the sound itself.
One of these days I will be sure to get a pair of focals for myself. Probably jump straight to the clears as well. And I already have a list of more zmfs I want. The auteurs eikons and either the verite opens or closed. One day
Itās all the more worth it when it shows. I absolutely love mine still. Itās easily my favorite when it comes to frequency response. And the drums that come on it have this different tone than Iām not used to but in a good way. The timbre maybe?
Iāve been comparing them to the aeon 2 opens I got and the easiest way to say it is that these are my main two babies. The bass on the aeons is more controlled and tight but the Aeolus is more natural. More forward treble on the aeons as well but not too much. Again itās those damn mids on the Aeolus more than anything. Just so mmmmmmmmm tasty. It makes them for sure.
Soundstage and imaging and even resolution win on the aeons but thatās fine the Aeolus still does great and It doesnāt need those to be fantastic. I easily could sell all of my headphones and just use these too but I wonāt. The rest have their place for sure. And Iām still always going to wonder whatās next for me haha.
They really are great together for sure. The aeons are more balance between the two Iād say. And the aeons give a little more of a semi open vibe so you get the open sound but itās easier for on details since it perfectly cuts out like 30 percent of ambient noise. Theyāre pretty damn special Iād say. Iād say they have about equal love from me right now to be honest. I havenāt tried the tuning pads yet but theyāre pretty perfect without the tuning pads.
The treble is pretty perfect for me. More than the Aeolus and great resolution on it. But right at the perfect level before it become harsh.
If you are considering them then do it before April 16th straight from his website and youāll get them for 760. And then youāll also be in the dan Clark audio club and get 15 percent off of all his stuff.
I like the Tuba with the Aeolus, but I donāt love it.
I honestly prefer the Clear a little more than the Aeolus with the Tuba, but I still prefer the Clears on my solid state amp. The Aeolus can in fact be really good, but sometimes I wish I had a mulligan with them as sometimes I think I wouldnāt be such a flip-flopper if I had a different headphone from ZMF.
Yeah i see the Aeolus as good, probably even some of the better, all rounders from zmf. Like good if you were one that only owned a headphones. Or one that you could be great with if they were your only pair. But if you have a shit ton of headphones than these are too in the middle to complement a lot of others in your arsenal. Some of his more specialized pairs like the auteurs would be better in that case. That way they have their more specific purpose or place in your lineup.
