circling back to this, I have sold my thx887 and schiit stack, and all my other headphones. left with, a VC and 6xx, and a BH crack + sb and a whammy both diy amps. I m very happy with the whammy on the VC, it does seem like I do have to turn the volume past 12 oclock to get decent volume as its output is not very high, but that classA sweet , detailed and spacious (especially after omp amp changed) sound is really nice. I was looking at the Flux initially, but caught in the DIY rabbit hole.

Beautiful stain on that set

Thanks. It’s their standard Monkeypod but I like it. Unless you mean stain on the Crack which I’m quite proud of.

Very nice finish on the wood on the crack! What sort of stain did u use can you share? I used some minwax wipe on type of stain, its my first time using it and i blame it on my skills the end result was less than desirable…

I also have the stock VO and couldn’t be happier with my look:

Yeah someone else asked about it in the Crack thread as well. I also used Minwax

At some point I will want an open back zmf to compliment the VC. I want something with wide soundstage, smooth and sweet, cant really decide between VO and Auteurs… I worry the VO is too similar to the VC in tonal character, @Onaha would you have an opinion on this ?

I’ve only heard the VC in limited times, but my impression is the selling point is that it captures the VO sound in a closed back environment. I’ve seen a lot of people sell their VO to replace it with a VC, but not many cases where people need to own both outside of collectors.

For my personal ZMF gear running single ended from a Qutest>ampsandsound Bigger Ben off the 300ohm tap I’d rank my own preference as the VO>Eikon/Auteur>Aeolus. The Eikon was the first ZMF I got and it blew me away. I’m not sure I experienced it with the other headphones, so it may have been the novelty or just the fact that the Eikons resonate with me, but I still would call them my favorite headphones.

My favorite contrast to the ZMFs is my Focal Clears, but I don’t run them off the same amp. I’ve mainly been running them portable off my fiio m15 with u12ts for my iems. If you already have a good tube setup for your ZMFs and don’t own Sennheiser 600s, that’s a steal at $300 new

well i already have a pair of 6xx, not sure if I would get the 600s as well… trust me i did think about it

When I first demoed zmf, I was gonna get the Eikons given it suited my budget and frankly the stage on that close back was so impressive for a closed back, but I didnt like the stock wood back then and they didnt have any LTD, so I went for the VC when it came out… Aeolus didnt really impress me at the time, its a shame my local dealer doesnt have the auteur for demo i would love to A/B it against the VO…

focals… i have a pair of elegias which i dont love tbh, elex im keen but seems like a lot of qc problems, but if it goes on sale again i may jump. Clears i have demoed and liked… but for the price i rather get a pair of zmfs imo…

I own a VO, Auteur, Eikon, and Aeolus, but if I had to do it over again knowing what I know now I’d have only gone with the VO and Eikon. Those are the two I use most and it’s not close. I mentioned the Clears because they’d probably be the set I use next, followed by the HD600 and Aeon 2 Closed. Recently I’ve been listening to the 800s and HE6SE, but still see both as situational and not daily drivers. But it is nice to have iems and planars when I do want a change of pace

Anybody running a successful portable setup with VCs? Something to like walk around the house with. DAPs or phone>Bluetooth>amp setups?

Love the coloring on yours! Do you know how much they weigh? I like the look of monkeypod and that they seem to be on the lighter end, so I’m tempted to order that…but I hear a new LTD run is coming soon snd I’m wondering if I’m going to be sad if I don’t get in on that haha

Sorry but I don’t know the weight. I will say it’s incredibly comfortable because it feels evenly distributed across the head once you’ve adjusted it.

I like the finish on mine too.

@MON would this work with the VC’s?

Very well, strap a phatlab phantasy ii to the back and that’s a top tier portable setup for the verite (and a lot of other headphones lol)

Brought out the scale. Just under 500g.

Thanks for doing that! It sounds like the stabilized won’t be too much heavier than that so I think I’m going to wait a few weeks and see what gets released.

How do they pair with Liquid platinum for versatile genres of music?

Has anyone compared/used a Violectric v280 and an SPL Phonitor X with their ZMF’s? If so what are your thoughts on how they compare? Looking for best SS options to pair with a VC and that might add a little warmth
