Another thing to think about with this amp is how the headphones sit on it. Probably smush the pads a bit.

And tubes get hot and if you put your headphones on it while it’s hot or something could be risky?

All things I haven’t considered. I would def want to try it out before making a big purchase like that. It’s going to be Chord Mojo life for a pretty long time anyways.

Ultimately, this is the big moment of me deciding if I will go Focal or ZMF with my main set of headphones. I have a lot of appeal to both, but I can tell the Focals definitely pair with my limited gear better.

That’s most likely negated by the design, but I think the pads/headstrap is a reasonable concern

That’s how my Aeolus pads got squished and they weren’t nearly as stretched out as in that photo. For ZMF’s you shouldn’t be leaving any pressure on your pads if you want them to last.

Just got the Auteur perf suede and the BE2 hybrid pads in the mail. Very luxurious. Listening notes coming soon along with comparisons to the other pads.

Wow y’all I’m really reaching a point where I’m lacking the vocabulary to explain these things.

If you got the money, I would say getting the BE2 pads in sheepskin, suede and hybrid are all probably worth it to figure out your favorite.

I think they are really the superior pad for the Verite. It’s worth noting that they are extreeeeeemly close in shape, size and signature to the Verite pads.

I should also note that the Suede Auteur pads transform the set into a super laid back and relaxing pair of headphones without sounding off or weird. If you know you might be interestied in easy listening it’s worth picking up either the Universe or these in suede to essentially get a second pair of headphones. If you have no interest in a warm set of cans I’d skip it.

Thought I’d give an update on pad preferences.

Honestly it’s a case where the product is exactly as described. The Be2 has become my favorite pad out of the four that I have for my Verite. It really does give the sound of the flat verite pads with the staging of the Universe and Auteur pads. Black magic. Actually if I’m being as accurate as I can with comparisons I would say that the Be2 pads have a better stage than the Universe and the Autuer pads. It’s more like the marrying of the stage of the Elex and Clear, but with the sound of the verite flat pads.

Can’t recommend enough. You could even email Zach with your personal preferences for a rec on hybrid, leather or suede. He maaaay even give you a discount code.

Lol. Too late for that, but that’s my fault for not thinking about emailing him. Was just too impatient to put in an order as quick as possible, to minimize my wait time even by a day.
I did throw the BE2 perforated lambskin in the cart though, so I’ll be able to play around with the 3 and see what I prefer.

Yeah, a Verite Open, that comes with the Universe and Verite pads, and the BE2 pads added to the cart.

I ordered the Be2 perf hybrid pads and received the Be2 perf lambskin but I contacted zmf and they’re sending the hybrids Friday. I tried the be2 and compared them to the Verite/flat pads. I didn’t hear much of a difference. Let’s see how the Be2 hybrids play out but honestly, lately I’ve enjoyed the universe pads. For whatever reason the universe pads opened up the vocals and stage (obviously the stage got bigger but wasn’t expecting the vocal change), but I like how the vocals are clearer. Not sure why I hear what I do with the Verite pads (veiled vocals) but the universe pads sound cleaner. And I used the universe pads when I first received the Verite but I changed them before burn in.

Oh what a lucky mistake! Cool that you’re getting both. Wish I had the be2 perf lambskin as well. Maybe if you don’t end up liking them you’d be down for a trade?

The BE2 are more like the flats in tonality for sure, but I find if you use the BE2 for several days and then switch to the flat pads you’ll find yourself wondering what happened to the soundstage. Suddenly everything is left and right instead of “up on stage.”
