đŸ”· Beyerdynamic DT770

I just think the whole lack of body thing is because how cheap it is. I dont think the DT1990 will have the same problem. I really like the signature. which makes me want to get the DT1990

That’s exactly what I thought!
I like the beyer sound for bass and treble, with recess clear mids ( not warm, not shouty). All the beyer don’t fatigue me as oppose to something like akg or Sennheiser.

Just got this headphone and it is awesome. i love it. but its treble is a little too high. im trying to use EQ to control it. which frequencies should i turn down to take the bite out of this headphone? i’m using EQ APO

I’m pretty meh with this one - I do have the 80 Ohm version but not my cup o tea. Selling or taking to school for the kids.

So I did some pad swapping on these today. I compared stock pads to Dekoni X00 sheepskin and Accessory House Global (AHG) lambskin pads. It seems that both of these pads adds a bit to the lower mid range, warming up the sound a bit which I find nice. The Dekoni pads are the best for reducing the sharp treble but they also seem to reduce the sub-bass a bit. Overall they are good but not really my preferred choice, especially since they reduce the sound stage a bit as well. The AHG pads are what I’m going to be using going forward. These reduce the treble, but not as much, so it could still possibly be a problem for some (only those who are properly treble sensitive imo). They don’t reduce the sub-bass any and still warm up the lower mid range nicely. The AHG pads are also the most comfortable by far. They are deeper than the stock pads and have a larger ear hole than the Dekoni pads. The sound stage is also comparable to the stock pads (possibly a touch smaller but nothing that I would call noticeable for most people). The imaging with all the pads is unchanged as far as I could tell.

In conclusion, if you want a more comfortable, warmer, and less sharp DT-770, get the AHG pads. The Dekoni pads are still good but they are expensive and need to be special ordered via email, so I cant really recommend. The AHG pads are ~$30 on amazon.

Been reading all sorts of mods on these bitches
may need alter and try out again.

Man - change of heart here. Was running off the THX SP 200. Just pulled em back out and ran off Bifrost and Asgard and they are’t as terrible. Stage is good
treble is up front but not like the THX
was too much.

What is required to swap the pads out for the Mr Headphone’s Alphas or the AHGs?

I don’t have these yet, just ordered a set of 80ohms, and want to just listen to them first in all the configurations I can muster. Plus, return policy if Mount Beyer is too much for me.

Also any good tutorials or resources on pigtailing them? I’m much prefer that then to do a traditional detachable cable mod. I also saw somewhere that people were using paper towels to dim the highs a little.

I tried Brainwavz’s Memory Foam Earpads - XL - Perforated PU Leather on my DT 770 PRO 250 today.

Pros:
Definitely comfier

But

I didn’t like the signature change. The sound stage became airier, a lot of the lower frequencies were altered. Bass is still there, but seems to take a back seat. I switched back to stock, I think I like it more.

I just bought myself a pair of DT 770 80 Ohm. I slapped on a pair of generic, angled fenestrated lambskin pads, and did a bit of modding to them. I added 4 pieces of sound dampening material on the back of each driver (On the pic, only 1 piece has been applied) They sounded great stock, but now they’re even better, and the comfort has increased dramatically!

Hey guys, quick question. Looking for a solid pad swap to some leather based material on the 770s as I plan to buy them as a gift. I really don’t feel like going and buying dekonis considering the price. I swore there was a cheap replacement directly from beyer or something but for the life of me I can’t seem to find them. Anyone got some info on this? fenestrated or regular leathers are fine. I think fenestrated keep the signature more though if I remember right.

Mr. speakers/Dan Clark Audio Alpha pads work really well on the 770 imo. Not exactly cheap but might be cheaper than dekoni

nope those are expensive too.

I used brainwavz xl pleather with mine a lot when I had them. Don’t quite recall all the sonic differences but it did increase the bass quite a bit and made tthe 770 pretty fun and extremely comfortable :+1:

True but those are quite a bit larger than the form fitting pads which is why I was thinking of getting an actual beyer pad or something more on the line of form fitting to the headphone.

I do have those perforated brainwavz here in XL size.

Yup fair enough, just thought they might’ve been the ones you were thinking of and they’re pretty inexpensive as well. Good luck with your search.

My friend got these cans and he has them now and wanted an amp/dac to make things sound better for around $100, so I recommended the iFi Zen DAC. My thought was since he didn’t like how bright they were I would have him use the bass boost button. Was that a good recommendation for these, or is there something better to reduce the treble? And also all he listens to is rap and hip hop.

Also a side note would it be worth for him to invest in the Dan Clark Alpha Pads?

EDIT: Big thing I forgot to add is he has the 80 OHM version

That bass boost will distort the hell out of the dt 770 on some songs or make it very muddy lol. It does roll the treble a little though as an amp so I think your alright as a good budget option. Would’ve just gone with the fiio e10k since its only 80 ohm if I wanted to get a budget gift honestly
either way though works fine. If he wants more roll off he can get something like a liquid spark, or just keep the zen dac and grab the zen can later for the extra 3d mode[its not virtual surround] and extra power
