đŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Personally I think you would be doing a disservice to yourself if you did not get something like a Magni/Modi stack from Schiit. Just speaking from my own taste there are times when I like to kick the high gain mode of the Schiit Heresy on to give it some extra thump in certain techno/EDM/electronic music that I listen to as well as in gaming. Not all the time, just here and there but realize what your getting into. I described the sonic characteristics between the the Nighthawk and the TYGR in a few posts above. They compliment each other very nicely depending on what type of gaming your doing. Another words, get them both!

This is myn, the all black is very nice to my taste.

If you do get the Nighthawks get an aftermarket cable as the one that comes in the box is terrible. I got one from Audiophileninja on etsy, link.

Well, this amp is rather analytical and measurement based. Not particularly something I would recommend but is alright I suppose
It’s just the heresy that is like this
magni 3+ actually has some subtle difference characteristics. Though to my ear they sound so close to the same it’s hard to tell. I like the Heresy’s look more though.

I would say Schiit or Monoprice
not the biggest fan of clean neutral amps for dark headphones honestly. So magni or Liquid spark would be my vote.

Fantastic representatives of their sound signature that’s for sure. They fit different roles and of course
dark sound signatures aren’t always the best for every music genre
Not a big fan of dark sounds when I want to listen to classical or orchestra
 just sounds real off.

Original nighthawks, not as good as carbons. Sound different, different cable, carbon has additional style of pads, build quality is different

they are carbon

ah well then, great price then.

im in the same boat

Here is a new listing for an open box sold as “Brand New” Audioquest Nighthawk you can make an offer on for anyone interested. Link

$400? ridiculous
would definitly talk him down on that

I have 2 people I am talking too. If one of them falls threw, I post all my NightHawk Findings

Shut me down if unwarranted, but can we keep the focus here on the TYGRs and move the other chatter to the Nighthawk official thread? đŸ”¶ Audioquest NightHawk

That is a good point.

I rarely see it mentioned, but if someone was starting from scratch I’d probably recommend a Motu M2 to pair with TYGRs and a dynamic mic for gaming.

I wouldn’t. Motu is $170 + Tax + shipping fee and audio interfaces aren’t the best for headphone sound quality compared to an amp let alone how weak they are in terms of power and headroom. You can go that route but it definitely won’t be anything that great in my opinion. Also theres cheaper interfaces for that option

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but where are we in terms of the TYGR’s imaging vs. DT880 250/600Ω?

The tygr, much like the 990s which uses the same driver, have better imaging than the 880 as well as a larger soundstage due to semi open back vs fully open. The difference would be noticeable in competitive gaming
DT 880 has the more ideal sound signature but in terms of imaging and staging it’s better on the tygr. Tygr’s bass isn’t very in the way though and really only downside is that it’s not bright so it may be a bit tougher picking out certain sounds

I am really interested in a pair but I just don’t think I can justify it since I already have a 177X GO. I will keep an eye out for any used pairs or sales though.

not really all that comparable as they have seperate signatures and are closed back vs open back. Pretty much completely different headphones.

They did go on sale around the time I first picked up my pair but only for like $20 off. Finding a used pair though seems rather rare, I think I have seen them sold used maybe one time so far.

Though I suppose it’s up to you in the long run.

Edit: I guess I should add it will probably depend on location for used though
seen a few comment from the EU that beyer sells b stock tygrs over there for much cheaper than we can get here in the USA which is quite unfortunate that we don’t have that same luxury.

I more meant for my wallet, haha. But I really could use a pair of open backs. But yeah I’m here in the USA.

I really can’t understand why Beyer doesn’t employ a detachable cable, that’s another put off for me. I know it can be modded, though.

To my knowledge and experience with their brand so far it would appear they reserve their detachable cables for their expensive headphones but not the cheap headphones
 which honestly, is very annoying.

lol understandable, I try to save money whenever I can as this hobby loves to light your wallet on fire. Well, 177x GO are quite nice for what they are
Large soundstage despite closed back, great imaging(not as good), and has a U shape signature or what I call a more subtle V signature as it’s closer to neutral(much more refined and balanced out than the original 1770s). I no longer own that headphone after I switched it out for my Aeons but it was nice for a while. I wouldn’t particularly say you need the tygr if you find a lot of enjoyment out of 177x honestly
it would just be a somewhat different signature as they both are pretty close to neutrality
you’d pretty much just be buying a headphone without the 177x Go’s treble peak, much more soundstage, and much better imaging. I would tell you pick up the nighthawks or a bright headphone instead if you really wanted a good complimenting headphone with a seperate signature for more variety.
