šŸ”¶ HarmonicDyne x Zeos ERIS

So after doing some playing with EQ on the Eris, I feel like the midrange is a bit problomatic on these. Filling in those two dips in the graph makes a pretty significant improvement to the vocal timbre and presentation when I A/B them. And they still maintain the big soundstage and everything so there doesn’t seem to be any benefit to having them, IMO.
Also did a bit to tame the treble. With this filter they maintain pretty much everything positive about this headphone while fixing some of the issues, IMO

I also personally flattened out the bass bump to be a more linear rise into the sub-bass and then I think they do actually become VERY good in a way that’s special. They still have plenty of body and texture to the mid-bass, but they do not overpower the lower-mids nearly as much. I really enjoyed them a lot more like this, honestly. My two cents. But I would consider this change more subjective.

Here’s a good track to show the improvement in the mid-range in this filter. Ado’s voice just really comes to life and sounds a lot more proper and natural, IMO. It is the intended focus of the track. Without the filter applied her voice just sounds odd by comparison. Again, I don’t really think it takes away from the positives from this headphone either. Maybe with a V2 the mid-range can be fixed and adjusted. Or do a DSP wireless version with some fixes to the mid-range through DSP. It would be killer IMO. With the filters, it’s a really good fun headphone, IMO. Nobody really makes headphones like these anymore, either… It’s like a much better version of the old Sony big bassy headphones with the fat earmuff pads they no longer make.

Here’s a final look at the filter for the Element 4. If you decide to try it, you can try with and without the 190hz filter that makes the mid-bass more linear. Also, Element 4 does automatic adjustments to the gain, but for manual setup, I think -7 to pre-amp gain should be okay. -10 if you really want to be safe. These are easy to drive, so it should not really be a problem.

Can you share the link that JDS provides so I can try this without punching in all the numbers? I think you need a JDS account but you can just share a short URL here.

Just unboxed #1961. Eris is without question the hardest-hitting headphone I’ve ever encountered. Like, 2nd place isn’t even close. Not gonna win any awards for vocal sweetness, or neutrality… but you buy these to listen to The Prodigy, not Norah Jones.

Pulled the trigger on those a couple of weeks ago and I’m honestly blown away, considering The Headphone Show review I was expecting a party trick headphone that I’ll use for movies and maybe some video games but honestly I’m kinda blown away.
Been in audio for 20 years now, mostly around high-end speakers after working sales at a upper-end retailer, one thing many people in the headphone community seem to ignore/neglect is the physicality of certain music, yes my Sennis and Hifimans are clearer, cleaner and more tonally accurate, but that’s telling half of the story, if you think you’re getting an accurate representation of a double bass or a kick drum, you should skip your next upgrade and go buy some concert tickets instead.

These do something magical, it kinda feels like going from a great pair of bookshelf speakers to full range floor standing pair, yes if you stay within the same price range, chances are the bookshelves will be cleaner and clearer and probably measure better from the midbass onwards but you are missing so much of the story… these on the other hand are the 1st pair of headphones I FEEL, they will rattle your head on those tracks and will kick your ass in movies and games

Does that mean the Eris is better than the Sennis and Hifimans of the world? Nope! but that doesn’t change the fact the Eris can give you a better and even more accurate representation of the sound in some perspectives and honestly are just so freaking fun. Anyone who can should give these a listen

So only recently discovered your content, getting back into my hifi stuff, and came across this video. For years i have been trying to find a headphone that has the right balance of what I need for my tastes and the right amount of bass production. I used to have and use the Audio Technica M50x and whilst they are a great headset the bass can sometimes be mussy, muddy and wash out bits of the song or make you miss little details.

I took a punt on you and this headset, and ill tell you what, finding these and listening to them was like finding a pot of gold. They are amazing for EDM, Dance etc, great for other music if you tweak some setting via an eq, even if you leave it flat, they sound great. The detail and clarity i was getting through the bass was fucking incredible. Thank you for making these

Raymond W. from Amazon is VERY mad that these are not Fostex X00. Also that the cups swivel and will likely break in 2 months. He seems to have developed a rattle which might be the Wire in the cup (a rare but easily fixable issue) [Take facia with driver off. Rotate. Reinstall facia with driver]

He also states he is dropping everything in an EQ -15db… but not the bass… and then plugging holes to re-tune it… and then its not good and I am a shill.

Carry on.

Also there is Glass, Aluminum and Steel making up the Headphone. Along with Steel hinges. But its ā€œall plasticā€. The build comment gets to me.

literally dropped mine onto pavement and they’re fine, as always QC can vary but it’s not a badly built headphone :joy:
also seems like mans only wants to hear bass if he’s reducing everything else by 15 DB to get it where he wants :hear_no_evil:

On Sale for $216 on ShenZhen

Also I can’t Recommend Alice in Chains the MTV unplugged album enough on Eris… Its amazing.

Is there any consensus on the best dac/amp to pair with these? I’d love to get the new element but we are talking $727.08 to buy it in Ireland factoring in shipping and tax.

wouldn’t buy a dac amp just for Eris, really doesn’t need it

If you want a great experience grab a L&P W4, it’s fantastic with Eris.

Agree with @CTOXmas , you dont really need a high end dac/amp, though it does benefit from it. Personally i like it on my Muse M4 or my IFI stack (Zen Dac/Zen Can), when i really want the bass to kick my ass

how do the harmonicdyne eris compare to the modhouse argon mk3 in soundstage bass midrange and treble

I’d say on par with Soundstage. Way more bass and comparable midrange. Argon are a Darker set of cans and while Eris has pretty tight treble I’d still call it on the warmer side.

Thanks! I will go with the Eris then since the soundstage is about the same and i really need the BASS.

Good choice :+1:…
