šŸ”¶ Letshuoer S12

Sure.

  • Phone: ASUS Zenfone 4
  • Dongles: Apple USB-C Dongle (UK) / xDuoo Link
  • Cable: XINHS 4 Core Graphene 3.5mm

With phone jack:
Volume already too loud for me at 70% phone volume.

Apple Dongle (UK):
Volume only at my normal listening level when phone volume maxed out. (Surprising :face_with_monocle:)

xDuoo Link:
Volume loud at 65%, almost near death over 70%. :skull_and_crossbones:

Surprising result, I don’t recommend using Apple USB-C Dongle with the S12, at least if yours is the UK/EU nerfed version.

Speedy responder over here!

One thing to note for the OP @Aromato: being loud doesn’t equate to sounding good and loud. Power matters, good power matters even more. If you’re getting a 150 USD planar IEM, I would invest in at least a decent dongle that can provide more oomph.

how would you evaluate DT02 dongle which is bundled with S12 in Aliexpress? is it good enough?
I can’t even judge it on paper. does the specs seem good to you?

thank you very much … great to hear that … regarding ttorbic comment, do you think sound quality (not just loudness) is good enough out of phone or Link dongle? i care about soundstage and tonality. not very seeking details… i wanted to buy Hana 2021 but this just got really hyped … i wonder if it’s better than hana/kato out of a phone … which one should I buy in your opinion?

A/Bing just now, sound quality from the S12 directly from the phone jack is already quite good compared to the DD IEMs I have, probably because of S12’s planar driver. Usually other single DD IEMs I use with the phone sound more muffled without the dongle. Link lends more clarity in the upper region for the S12, and a thicker sub bass, but there’s a risk of making the bass overall muddy.

There are tons of dongles better than the Link out there. I wouldn’t say the Link is the cleanest; it rather colors the SQ in the typical xDuoo way. If you want cleaner sound, look for other dongles.

thanks again. i’m considering to buy S12 + DT02 dongle bundle in Aliexpress … it should be good combo if they are officially bundling these together…!
last question… how would you evaluate soundstage/imaging of these against other iems in this price range? (again… on phone :joy:)
I can’t thank you enough

I saw your other comment on the Tea Cult thread lol, I don’t know where you got the impression that soundstage of planars are narrow (planar IEM perhaps, planar headphones are always wider than DD headphones), but S12 has one of the widest soundstage in this price range, just slightly short of Mangird Tea ($300). Imaging is pinpoint accurate, I don’t recall any IEM under $150 that can do imaging this well.

that’s it … you pretty much sold S12 to me :grinning:
(that impression came from the fact that I’ve heard they ā€œareā€ wide … but need amp otherwise will sound narrow…!)

This means system is case insensetive. Now it makes me wonder it treats password Abc and abc the same

You might be able to do it by first changing it to something else (temporarily) and then make it all caps?

It’s probably just the titles that work this way.

How is the channel balance guys?

I have no way to measure it, but it sounds fine to my ears.

Don’t have a measuring rig, but imperceivable to my ears

How is the resolution? Does it pick up everything like timeless does?

To my ears, is more detailed, without being as harsh.

Compared to timeless? What are other differences?

In case people missed out on the early bird sales, @shuoer is running another promo! Go go go
