i legit asked them again yesterday and they said “we probably wont be able to hear anything, we wont be actively listening”
58x for me then (though i wonder if i even need new headphones when i can spend that money on other stuff… since its only really possible music burnout or just wanting to make my digital setup fine)
Lol you’re speaking to the choir. I’ve spent about 2500 bucks on this “hobby” the past 30 days.
Don’t worry. It’s normal to second guess. It’s hard to pick the “right” thing. But take it from me, as long as I researched and worried about which amp or dac I’ve wanted, I never regret my purchase when I put them on my ears.
I think those would be great headphones! They certainly will sound different than your other pair.
You can also still get an amp/dac or not for them, they do well still without one, but also scale really well with one.
Maybe I might instead since I’m getting these open backs basically for be because my birthdays next month I wonder if I’ll do this plan where I buy the open backs for vinyl, keep the m50s until I got about 400 bucks for the amp/DAC and DT770s…
The only other option imo for open backs might be the grado sr80 but those are not really great for hip hop or electronic music and I listen to those on vinyl a lot too
Oh you have vinyl?
The 58x would be wonderful with vinyl imo.
The amp/dac I would recommend under 100 dollars or around there would be the Fiio BTR5, or the Fiio Q1 Mk2.
If you don’t need portable, but still want something fairly small for a desk, the Fiio K5 Pro is really nice.
Either way, you don’t need an amp/dac for those headphones, but it can help if you feel like you want a bit more detail and power.
But definitely see if you end up liking the 58x first. Curious to hear your thoughts on it!
The only other reason I dunno about using open backs for my digital setup is a lot of YouTube and I dunno if people just speaking really works with open backs
In what way? Do you think it would sound unnatural? If that’s what you are concerned about, not at all, open back generally sound more natural.
Or are you wondering if it will still bother other people?
It works no matter what podcasts and prove just speaking is probably the best in my opinion on smooth laid back open backs due to the absolute lack of sibilance
I think the M50 would be totally fine to use for just listening to people talk if you need to keep other people from hearing it or getting bothered.
58x are fine if your parents don’t have a problem with them.
If you have 400$ you should get the best headphones you can get. the sennheiser 58x and the low level beyerdynamics are ok but their not gonna be much better than your m50x. get out of the 150$ price bracket and get some headphones that will blow your mind. I recommend the Sivga P2. one of the best planar’s in existence. its 400$ or get the hifiman Sundara at 350$ another awesome Planar. The Sivga has a really nice V shape sound bass and treble a little elevated, the Sundara has a nice W shape, treble, midrange and bass slightly elevated. these are among the most exciting headphones around. with incredible sound that completely destroys the 58x and dt770. also both very durable
you can save up for a amp later, headphones are the most important part.
