šŸ”¶ Sennheiser HD58x Jubilee

You might want to open a thread for other portable amp/dacs, because I donā€™t know much about em. Maybe Topping NX4, maybe theseā€¦

Some good ideas in here

Yep my 1st setup was the HD58x and ifi Nano BLā€¦ I was hookedā€¦

I have more amp/dac gear now but still only 1 HPā€¦ so farā€¦

The HD58X sound good just off my phone, but with an amp/dac itā€™s a whole different game.

@duke86fan Yeah I would recommend setting up a thread saying you are looking for a good DAC/AMP that is portable and say what your price range is.

So I got a question, has anyone successfully done a bucking magnet mod for these yet? I thought I cracked the code when they first came out, but I later had to acknowledge that something wasnt right, didnt damage the headphones, but could tell that maybe my positioning was off etc. Anyway just throwing it out there to see whats the latest with the community on that stuff.

I just did a review of this headphone here:

Disclaimer: I am treble sensitive AF, lol.

As much as I said I loved these headphones, thereā€™s aā€¦ 7-8khz peak I really donā€™t like, with my pair, on some songs. Which is damn weird because even the ā€œpeakyā€ GRAS graph only show a small 5khz peak ā€“ not what I hear.

Anyway, my pair was used, serial number 011319 (!), and I believe thereā€™s been a few silent revisions, so, I guess you wonā€™t have this problem. Just a warning if you buy it used, I guess.

The truth is most graphs and testing rigs are not all that accurate above 2khz, at least thatā€™s what I have heard. I always trust human ears first before looking at a graph. I will look at graphs to find an explanation of why I am hearing something, but if it doesnā€™t match up, I trust my ears, or another personā€™s that I trust as well.

I mean, itā€™s not that random. :stuck_out_tongue: Iā€™d say ā€œgood luckā€ for above 10khz though.

I would say for a high quality rig it would be accurate to around 8-10k, cheaper ones would be less accurate

Right. Just trying to make the point though that graphs are not as reliable as your own ears.

Could you link some of the offending songs?

Lol, just Linus talking (Linus Tech Tips on YouTube) sounds way too clear on this pair of headphones for me, for example.

Itā€™s always voices, too much highs in the voices, sounds unnatural to me.
To be clear, theyā€™re still excellent. :stuck_out_tongue: But Iā€™m searching for something with a bit less high-mids/low-treble now. Theyā€™re too clear for my treble-sensitive ears.

Edit: Warning, this second video is like 10dB louder?!

What AMP do you use?
Maybe the 6xx would suit you well?

There is nothing like the Elegia

I meanā€¦ I shouldnā€™t have said that, lol. I already modded my T50RPs a bit to sound like I want and to get rid of this high-treble. I definitely donā€™t need another pair of headphones right now. My next step will be like, 500$+ detail monsters, probably next year because I need to concentrate on more important things (ā€¦and/or cheaper things like DACs and amps) for now.
